How much does a Body Composition DEXA scan cost?
A Total Body Composition DEXA scan is $185 and is completed during a 30-minute appointment.
If you would also like a Bone Density DEXA scan, both assessments can be completed during the same 30-minute appointment for $235.
A combined Bone Density and Total Body Composition DEXA assessment with additional consultation time with a Physiotherapist or Dietitian is $285 for a 60-minute appointment.

What should I wear for my Body Composition DEXA scan?
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing without metal where possible.
Please avoid clothing with metal zips, buttons, belts, hi-vis reflective tape or underwire, as these may interfere with your scan.
You may also be asked to remove items such as jewellery, watches, keys or other metal objects before your assessment.
When will I receive my Body Composition DEXA results?
Your initial results will be briefly discussed with you during your appointment.
You will receive a comprehensive clinical report within 7 business days, including information about your lean muscle mass, body fat, visceral fat, regional fat and lean tissue distribution, and bone mineral content.
With your consent, we can also send a copy of your report to your GP or treating healthcare provider.
Can I have a Body Composition DEXA scan while taking GLP-1 medication?
Yes. A Body Composition DEXA scan may be useful for people taking GLP-1 medications who want to monitor changes in muscle mass and body fat during weight loss or weight maintenance.
The scan can provide a baseline before or during treatment and may help you and your healthcare providers monitor how your body composition changes over time.
Your medication should continue to be prescribed and managed by your treating medical practitioner.
Do I need to lose weight before repeating my Body Composition scan?
No. Changes in body weight are not required before repeating a Body Composition DEXA scan.
Body weight alone cannot show whether changes have occurred in muscle mass or body fat. Your weight may remain relatively stable while your body composition changes.
A repeat DEXA scan can help provide a more detailed picture of these changes over time.
What does a Body Composition DEXA scan measure?
A Total Body Composition DEXA scan provides detailed information about the different components of your body rather than relying on body weight or BMI alone.
Your assessment includes measurements of lean muscle mass, body fat, body fat percentage, visceral fat, regional fat distribution and bone mineral content.
This information can help establish a baseline and monitor changes in your body composition over time.
How frequently should I repeat a DEXA Body Composition Scan?
Most people repeat a DEXA Body Composition scan every 3-6 months to allow enough time for changes in fat and muscle mass to occur. The ideal interval depends on your health, fitness, or weight management goals.
