Can I have a DEXA scan if I have a pacemaker or other implants?

Can I have a DEXA scan if I have a pacemaker or other implants?

Yes.
A DEXA scan is safe if you have a pacemaker or other internal medical implants (such as joint replacements, metal plates, or screws). The scan uses a very low dose X ray and does not interfere with implanted devices.
Please tell our staff before your appointment if you have any implants. They may be visible on the images and will be taken into account when your scan is analysed.
