Can I have a Bone Density DEXA scan if I have already been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis?

Can I have a Bone Density DEXA scan if I have already been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis?

Yes. Bone Density DEXA scans may be used to monitor bone density over time in people who have previously been diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis.

The timing of repeat scans should be based on your individual circumstances and may depend on your previous results, fracture risk, medications and treatment plan.

We recommend discussing the appropriate timing of repeat Bone Density testing with your GP or treating healthcare provider.
