Type 2 Diabetes & Nutrition Support

Why did the client contact us?

53-year-old male presented to our clinic following a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes, seeking support to better understand how nutrition could help manage his blood glucose levels and improve his overall health.

What did we find?

We identified opportunities to improve meal structure, carbohydrate quality, and portion sizes, while increasing fibre, protein and overall dietary quality. We also explored the client’s current eating habits and identified practical areas for change.

Our treatment plan

Through regular dietetic appointments, we focused on:

  • Understanding carbohydrates and their impact on blood glucose
  • Increasing fibre and protein to support blood glucose management and satiety
  • Choosing carbohydrates that are kinder to his blood sugar levels
  • Developing balanced meals using practical portion guidance
  • Developing realistic strategies for eating out and social occasions

Results

With ongoing dietetic support over 6 months on a monthly basis, the client achieved improved confidence in managing his diabetes through nutrition, with improved meal structure and healthier eating habits. His Hba1c reading dropped from 6.9% to 5.9% alongside his fasting blood glucose levels.

They also developed a better understanding of how different foods affected their blood glucose and the practical changes they could make to support their long-term health.
