High Cholesterol

Why Did the Client Contact Us?

A 56-year-old male was referred to the clinic after routine blood tests by his GP identified elevated cholesterol levels. He wanted to improve his cardiovascular health and reduce his cholesterol through sustainable lifestyle changes. Despite his motivation, he had a demanding work schedule and busy personal life, making healthy eating challenging.

What We Found

During the initial consultation, we identified that his busy lifestyle often led to reliance on quick, convenient meals. Dining out was also a regular part of his routine, with weekly date nights and frequent social meals with friends, making it difficult to consistently choose heart-healthy options.

Our Treatment Plan

Over six appointments across nine months, we worked together to implement realistic, sustainable dietary changes that fit his lifestyle rather than restricting it. By focusing on practical strategies for meal planning, healthier choices when eating out, and improving overall dietary quality, he achieved significant improvements in his blood lipids. The client was also thankful for not needing to have to start on cholesterol lowering medications.

Results

  • Total cholesterol reduced from 6.9 mmol/L to 5.6 mmol/L
  • LDL (“bad”) cholesterol reduced from 4.3 mmol/L to 3.7 mmol/L
  • The client was also 6 kg down which was an adjunct goal for the patient
