Healthy Insights Package

A More Complete Picture of Your Health

Understanding what is happening inside your body can provide valuable insights that body weight or BMI alone cannot show.

At WLC Medical in Belmont, Perth, our Healthy Insights Package combines three assessments during one 60-minute appointment:

  • DEXA Bone Density Scan – measures Bone Mineral Density (BMD) and provides T-score and Z-score measurements to help identify areas of reduced bone density.
  • Total Body Composition DEXA Scan – provides detailed information about your muscle mass, body fat, visceral fat, fat distribution and bone mass.
  • ECAL Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Testing – measures how much energy your body uses while at rest, rather than relying on estimates or predictive equations.

Together, these assessments provide a comprehensive snapshot of your bone health, body composition and metabolism, helping you better understand your current health and establish an objective baseline that can be monitored over time.

The Healthy Insights Package is carried out by one of our Accredited Practising Dietitians, and no GP referral is required.

If you already have a referral from your GP or another healthcare provider, we’re happy to accept it. Simply bring it with you to your appointment and, with your consent, we’ll send your results directly to your GP or treating healthcare provider.

Who May Benefit from the Healthy Insights Package?

The Healthy Insights Package may be suitable for people who want a more comprehensive understanding of their health by looking at their bone health, body composition and metabolism together.

It may be particularly useful if you want to:

  • Establish a comprehensive baseline of your bone health, body composition and metabolism
  • Better understand your bone density, muscle mass, body fat, visceral fat and how your body uses energy at rest
  • Monitor changes in weight, body composition or muscle mass over time
  • Gain greater insight following significant weight loss, GLP-1 medication use, or changes in lifestyle or activity levels
  • Take a proactive approach to healthy ageing
  • Better understand your bone health approaching or after menopause, or if you are a man over 50
  • Assess your bone health if you have risk factors such as a family history of osteoporosis or a previous fracture following minor trauma
  • Better understand your bone health if you take medications or live with health conditions that may affect bone density

You do not need to be experiencing a health concern to book the Healthy Insights Package.

Preparing for Your Healthy Insights Package

Preparation instructions for both your DEXA scan and ECAL metabolism test will be provided at the time of booking to help you prepare for your assessment and ensure accurate results.

We recommend wearing comfortable clothing without metal zips, buttons, underwire, or hi-vis clothing with reflective tape where possible. You may be asked to remove items such as belts, jewellery, watches or keys before your DEXA scan. If required, a towel can be provided for your comfort.

Your assessment is non-invasive and completed during a single appointment. One of our Accredited Practising Dietitians will explain each assessment before carrying out your Bone Density DEXA scan, Total Body Composition DEXA scan and ECAL metabolism test.

Dietetic Advice and Your Healthy Insights Package

Following your assessments, your Dietitian will briefly discuss your initial DEXA and ECAL results with you.

Due to the volume and detail of information collected, your Healthy Insights appointment does not include comprehensive dietetic advice or personalised nutrition planning.

If you are seeking individualised dietary advice, including support with weight management, nutrition planning or other health goals, we recommend booking a separate 60-minute initial consultation with one of our Dietitians. This can be scheduled before or after your Healthy Insights Package, depending on your individual needs.

Understanding Your Results

Following your assessment, your DEXA images are carefully reviewed, and you’ll receive a comprehensive clinical report, comparable to those provided by established medical imaging services for bone density and body composition assessments, within 7 business days.

Your ECAL Resting Metabolic Rate results will be provided to you at the time of your appointment.

If your assessment was requested by your GP or another healthcare provider, we recommend booking a follow-up appointment with them to discuss your results and any ongoing management.

If you have booked without a referral, with your permission, we can send your comprehensive report directly to your GP to support your ongoing care.
