Metabolism Testing

Stop guessing how your metabolism works

At WLC Medical, we offer advanced non-invasive metabolism testing as part of your dietitian appointment.

This test provides immediate data about how your body uses energy, helping guide more precise and effective nutrition and lifestyle strategies. However, you can choose for the test not to be carried if you have health limitations. Please speak to our admin team if you have any concerns, or further questions.

Why test metabolism?

Metabolic health plays a major role in how your body regulates weight, energy, blood sugar, and fat storage.

If you’ve struggled with:

  • Difficulty losing or maintaining weight
  • Low energy or fatigue
  • Insulin resistance, PCOS, or fatty liver
  • Feeling that your body isn’t responding to “doing the right things”

Metabolism testing can provide valuable insight into why.

What does the test actually measure?

The test takes around 5 minutes and involves sitting comfortably and breathing normally through a mouthpiece.

It provides information about:

  • Your resting metabolic rate
  • How efficiently your body burns fat and carbohydrates
  • Overall metabolic efficiency

Results are available immediately and are interpreted by your dietitian in the context of your health history, blood tests, and goals, during your appointment.

How this information is used

Rather than relying on estimates or generic formulas, metabolism testing allows your dietitian to:

  • Tailor energy and nutrition targets more accurately
  • Identify signs of metabolic adaptation or stress
  • Reduce trial-and-error approaches
  • Align strategies with how your body is functioning right now

The goal is not to label your metabolism as “good” or “bad”, but to use objective data to guide smarter, more personalised care.

DEXA ‘Sports Package’

Please note that if you have chosen our DEXA Sports Package (Body Composition Scan and Metabolic Testing) with one of our dietitians, the dietetics consultation on the day is limited to discussing the results of your scan and ECAL test.

Due to the volume and detail of information collected, this appointment does not include comprehensive dietetic advice. A full, in-depth Body Composition Analysis report will be emailed to you within 7 business days.

If you are a new patient seeking detailed dietary advice (e.g. weight management or nutrition planning), we recommend booking an initial 1‑hour consultation with a dietitian. This appointment can be scheduled either before your Body Composition Scan or at a later time that suits you, and will help optimise your results and ongoing care.
